How to use this calculator
- Enter your own values in the labeled fields. Check the units and assumptions before comparing results. Only the fields needed for your selected calculation mode are shown.
- Your answer updates automatically. Review the calculation steps to see exactly how it was calculated.
- Copy, share, save, or download your result. Saved inputs stay on this device.
How the calculation works
The model divides adjusted area by an approximate repeating tile-and-joint module. It rounds to whole tiles and then to whole packs. Use inches with square feet or millimeters with square meters. Border cuts, staggered patterns and room dimensions can change the actual count, so this is not a layout plan.
A worked example
For 100 ft², 12-by-12-inch tiles, zero grout and 10% allowance, allow 110 tiles. At 10 tiles per pack, buy 11 packs.
Reading your result
Use the main result together with its units and supporting figures. Display values are rounded; calculations keep their underlying precision. A change in inputs or assumptions can change the answer. Compare the step-by-step working with your intended use before relying on an estimate.
Frequently asked questions
Why does grout affect area coverage?
The repeated tile module includes a joint on each dimension. Room boundaries need a separate layout check.
Is this exact for patterned layouts?
No. Validate cutting and pattern allowances before ordering.
