Unweighted 4.0 scale. Enter grade-point equivalents used by your institution; pass/fail courses should be excluded.

Your calculation, step by step

No black boxes
  1. Course 1: 3.7 × 3 = 11.1 quality points.
  2. Course 2: 4 × 4 = 16 quality points.
  3. Course 3: 3 × 3 = 9 quality points.
  4. GPA = 36.1 ÷ 10 = 3.61.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your own values in the labeled fields. Check the units and assumptions before comparing results. Only the fields needed for your selected calculation mode are shown.
  2. Your answer updates automatically. Review the calculation steps to see exactly how it was calculated.
  3. Copy, share, save, or download your result. Saved inputs stay on this device.

How the calculation works

GPA = Σ(grade points × course credits) / Σ(credits)

A credit-weighted GPA gives more influence to courses with more credits. Use the grade-point equivalents provided by your school, since plus/minus scales differ. This tool supports an unweighted 0–4 scale and excludes no courses automatically; omit pass/fail or non-credit courses yourself.

A worked example

Grades of 3.7 in 3 credits, 4.0 in 4 credits, and 3.0 in 3 credits give 36.1 quality points ÷ 10 credits = 3.61.

Reading your result

Use the main result together with its units and supporting figures. Display values are rounded; calculations keep their underlying precision. A change in inputs or assumptions can change the answer. Compare the step-by-step working with your intended use before relying on an estimate.

Frequently asked questions

Can I average letter grades directly?

Convert them to your institution’s grade-point values before entering them.

Does this support weighted high-school scales?

This release supports only a 0–4 unweighted scale.
