How the calculation works
ROAS compares revenue with ad cost, not profit with total business costs. For a meaningful break-even point, enter the contribution margin after variable costs but before advertising. The supporting contribution result subtracts advertising from that amount; fixed overhead remains excluded. Attribution quality depends on the data you enter.
A worked example
$4,000 revenue ÷ $1,000 spend = 4× ROAS. At 40% contribution margin, break-even ROAS is 1 ÷ 0.4 = 2.5×.
Reading your result
Use the main result together with its units and supporting figures. Display values are rounded; calculations keep their underlying precision. A change in inputs or assumptions can change the answer. Compare the step-by-step working with your intended use before relying on an estimate.
Frequently asked questions
Is ROAS the same as ROI?
No. ROAS uses revenue and advertising spend; ROI uses profit and investment cost.
Does contribution after ads equal net profit?
No. Fixed overhead and taxes are excluded.
