Discount Calculator

Calculate a sale price, savings and the effect of two sequential discounts.

Your numbers

Make it your own
Price after discounts
$72.00

USD · rounded to the nearest cent

You save$28.00
Effective discount28%

Excludes sales tax, shipping and fees. Unrounded arithmetic; retailers may round each discount separately.

Your calculation, step by step

No black boxes
  1. After first discount = 100 × (1 − 20/100) = 80 USD.
  2. Apply second discount to the reduced price: × (1 − 10/100).
  3. Final price = 72 USD. Discounts are sequential, not added.

What if things were different?

Save up to three scenarios, then change your inputs to compare the possibilities.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your own values in the labeled fields. Check the units and assumptions before comparing results. Only the fields needed for your selected calculation mode are shown.
  2. Your answer updates automatically. Review the calculation steps to see exactly how it was calculated.
  3. Copy, share, save, or download your result. Saved inputs stay on this device.

How the calculation works

Final price = original × (1 − discount1) × (1 − discount2)

The second discount applies to the already reduced price. Two successive discounts therefore do not usually equal their sum. The effective discount compares the final amount with the original base. Enter zero for the additional discount if only one applies. Taxes and delivery are outside this calculation.

A worked example

$100 less 20% is $80. Another 10% off $80 leaves $72: an effective 28% discount.

Reading your result

Use the main result together with its units and supporting figures. Display values are rounded; calculations keep their underlying precision. A change in inputs or assumptions can change the answer. Compare the step-by-step working with your intended use before relying on an estimate.

Frequently asked questions

Are two discounts added?
