Real-number arithmetic. Functions: sqrt, ln, log (base 10), exp, abs, sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan; constants pi and e. Use * explicitly. Floating-point rounding applies.

Your calculation, step by step

No black boxes
  1. Expression: sqrt(81) + 2^3.
  2. Evaluate parentheses and functions, factorial, powers (right associative), unary signs, multiplication/division, then addition/subtraction.
  3. Result = 17.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your own values in the labeled fields. Check the units and assumptions before comparing results. Only the fields needed for your selected calculation mode are shown.
  2. Your answer updates automatically. Review the calculation steps to see exactly how it was calculated.
  3. Copy, share, save, or download your result. Saved inputs stay on this device.

How the calculation works

Parentheses → functions/factorials → powers → signs → multiplication/division → addition/subtraction

Enter an explicit arithmetic expression using the supported function names. Powers associate to the right, so 2^3^2 means 2^(3^2). A leading minus has lower precedence than a power, so -2^2 is -4. The parser accepts mathematical tokens only; it does not execute entered code.

A worked example

sqrt(81) + 2^3 = 9 + 8 = 17.

Reading your result

Use the main result together with its units and supporting figures. Display values are rounded; calculations keep their underlying precision. A change in inputs or assumptions can change the answer. Compare the step-by-step working with your intended use before relying on an estimate.

Frequently asked questions

Which logarithm is log?

log is base 10; ln is the natural logarithm.

Can I omit the multiplication sign?

No. Write 2*pi and 2*(3+4), rather than implicit multiplication.
